So to continue with my #15daysofgrannysquares event I decided to make a pattern inspired by the lotus flower.

Lotus is considered to be a flower of purity and carries the meaning of “rebirth” as they grows in muddy water yet breaks the water’s surface/rises above water to bloom spreading its sweet scent.

Materials

  • 100% Acrylic light worsted weight in off white, yellow, pink and green
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • yarn needle

Glossery

MR – magic ring
sc – Single Crochet
dc – Double Crochet
ss – Slip stitch
ch – Chain
pf st – puff stitch
fpsc – front post single crochet
bpdc – back post double crochet
picot – (chain 3, slip stitch in same st)

Pattern

With pink start with a MR.

The Middle

Round 1 : ch 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch, sc 10 in the ring, tighten the ring leaving a small middle space. ss to the 1st sc
[10 scs]

Round 2 : in this round we will be crocheting into the middle space of the round 1.
ch 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch), sc 12 into the space, ss to the 1st sc, cut off the pink yarn
{12 scs}

Round 3 : join off white to any sc from round 2
ch 1( doesn’t count as a stitch), make a pf st to the first st, (ch 1, pf st to the next) x 11 times, ch 1, ss to the first puff, cutt off the off white yarn
{ 12 puffs & 12 chain spaces}

Round 4 : join yellow in a chain space between two puffs
ch 1(doesn’t count as a stitch), sc, (sc on top of next pf st, 2 sc in next ch sp) x 10 times, sc on top of next pf st, sc in next ch sp, join with a ss to the first sc. cut off the yellow yarn

The Petals

Round 5 : join green in any sc from round 4
ch 5 (count as a stitch and ch-2 space), skip next st, (dc in next st, ch 2,skip next st)x 17 times, join with a ss to the 3rd ch of ch-5. cut off the green yarn. weave in ends.
[18 dcs & 18 ch sps]

Round 6 : join pink in any ch sp from round 5
ch 1(doesn’t dount as a stitch), sc, ch 4, (sc in next ch sp, ch 4)x 18 times, join with a ss to the first sc
{18 ch 4 sps}

Round 7 : with same color ss to the next ch sp,
ch 1 (doesn’t count as a stitch), sc, 10 dc in next ch sp, (sc in next ch sp, 10 dc in next ch sp)x 8 times, join with a ss to the first sc. cut off the pink yarn
{9 5-dc-shells & 9 scs}

Round 8 : join off white with a fpsc to any sc from round 7
(skip next dc, bpdc in next 4 dcs, picot, bpdc in next 4 dcs, skip next dc, fpsc in next sc)x8 times, skip next dc, bpdc in next 4 dcs, picot, bpdc in next 4 dcs, skip next dc, join to the first fpsc with a ss. cut off the off white yarn. weave in ends.
{9 petals & 9 fpscs}

Round 9 : join green to the back post of any dc from round 5
ch 5 (counts as a stitch and a ch-2 space), (bpdc in next st, ch 2) x17 times, join with a ss to the 3rd ch of ch-5. cut off the green yarn.
{18 bpdcs & 18 ch sps}

Now we are going make this round shape to a square with 4 sides and 4 corners.

Round 10 : join off white in any ch sp from round 9
ch 3 (counts as the 1st st) , dc in same ch sp, (2 dc in next ch sp)x 3 times, dc in next ch sp -one side of the square is made,
ch 4 to make the corner, *dc in same ch sp, ( 2 dc in next ch sp)x 4 times, ch 4** – 2nd side & corner of the square is made,
(2 dc in next ch sp) x 4 times, dc in next ch sp, ch 4 – 3rd side & corner of the square is made,
repeat from *to ** – 4 th side & corner of the square is made,
join with a ss to the 1st st.
{36 dcs & 4 ch-4 sps}

Round 11 : ch 3 (counts as the 1st st), dc in next 8 sts, [(3dc, ch 3, 3dc) in next ch sp, dc in next 9 sts] x 3 times, (3dc, ch 3, 3dc) in next ch sp, join
{60 dcs & 4 ch-3 sps}

Round 12: join yellow in any ch sp from round 11
[(2 dc, ch 3, 2dc) in same ch sp, dc in next 15 sts] x 4 times, join
{19 dcs & 4 ch-3 sps}

Round 13: [ dc in next 2 sts, ( 2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in next ch sp, dc in next 17 sts] x 4 times, join.
{23 dcs & 4 ch-3 sps}
cut off the yellow yarn. weave in ends.

    Roynd 12 and 13 is somewhat difficult for me
